I think you need to work our how much it will cost to buy / replace the stuff you have.

So many people have said that Oz cost a lot of money to buy things out there.

As for storage, it depends on how much you are going to take... if you rent a place with a garage then you would be able to load that up with the stuff you don't need straight away, maybe?

Good Luck with your move!

Cars are very expensive .But look at the costs to ship 1.You have to have owned it for 2 yrs i think. And it has to be very very clean.Steam cleaned very thoroughly.Or customs will give u a big bill. They dont like soil.plantage, seeds or anything organic.VERY hot on it.But if u have an Aston Martin, then worth a ship

re the dog, it is costing us almost €5000 to ship our pug! that's 1k for quarantine fees, 1k for the import permit/pet passport and 3k to ship him. Yes I'm concerned about how he'll handle the journey but he is part of our family and we just couldn't imagine leaving him behind :)

Friends of ours that were moving to Oz were telling us to get rid of everything and buy new when we got here. We brought everything, they didn't and they got a shock as to how much money they have had to spend to start over again. Your choice entirely Ang, but if you just want to get up and running straight away and not having to trawl the shops for the best deals, then my advice would be to ship everything.

We're shipping everything! Considered the car but have been told that customs will really look into everything and we could end up having to pay loads. Dog is costing around £3,000. He shipped his push bike over and even though he'd thoroughly cleaned it, they kept it for over a week in quarantine. Things like pillows I'm going to lob this end but buy new to ship as I am a vacuum cleaner. I need a new one anyway. I'm currently clearing my loft and it's surprising the junk we've accumulated over the years! Christmas decs took a hammering and I've yet to get the artificial tree out and de 'cone' it.

You dont pay customs duty on anything (unless you have a container full of booze) even the car, you pay 'Import' duty on the car and then GST on the duty, it doesnt work out that much really, especially when you consider the price of used cars in Aus

Thanks Druid. We were told that shipping a car can be costly, not for import duty, but for Oz regulations, how clean it is etc etc etc. Instead of paying the fee at the end (which is how we have the car) we're just going to give it back in August. Hubs has now bought a vehicle in Perth, so we shall have transport when we arrive. We were told that unless you have a classic car, it's probably not worth the hassle. x

We paid $3000 for a decent fridge, couldnt wait for ours to arrive, so you wont get much for £4000, we shipped everything including the dog and the car, dog needed a good feed by the time she got here :biglaugh:

$3000 for a 'decent' frige? Hells bells, I picked up a good fridge from Harvey Norman in Osborne Park for $700 bucks!

Beleive me, when you see how much used cars are in Perth its well worth the hassle, but if you have got a good way out instead of losing a fortune on selling then it makes sense

That was a 'Middle of the road' priced fridge in the January sales too, we looked at the $700 bucks fridges, you dont get much for your money, we wanted the ice and cold filtered water dispensor
