bugsyburrell
Hi all, trying to find out about experiences of going from a 457 to PR?
Guest Stu
I assume your employer is willing to sponsor you. If you check out http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/skilled-workers/ens/ it gives the requirements, it will be 856 visa. I think if you've been here to 2 years or more then it is fairly straight forward, if not then you need to jump through all the hoops around getting your quals recognised, etc. I think it takes up to 5-6 months, although I know of people it only took 3. Best of luck
bugsyburrell
Hi stu, yes we have been offered a 457 sponsored but was just trying to find out if it's a difficult process to get PR from here? Thanks
verystormy
The easiest way is for employer sponsored PR as mentioned by Stu. You need to have been in Oz two years to get the most benefit of it as then there are no skills assessments and things. Mine took 2 weeks from sending everything in
Druid
Hi all, trying to find out about experiences of going from a 457 to PR? You can also go down the employed sponsored RSMS route, this way you dont have to wait the 2 years, I am going this way, application takes about 5 months, you also dont need to get your qualifications assessed

Does your employer make the application on your behalf? How much does it cost? Topcat
Druid
Hey Druid,How does this visa work? Does your employer make the application on your behalf? How much does it cost? Topcat Its a 3 part visa, Part 1, your employer submits your nomination to the 'Regional Certifying Body', they ensure there is no one else in WA that can do your job, about a month ago the rules changed, your employer had to prove there was no one else in WA, now they dont. Part 2, after your nomination is approved, your employer submits their part of the application to DIAC and pays about $1200 application fee. Part 3, you submit your application to DIAC and cough up another $3000, you need the usual medicals police clearances etc, then sit and wait for 5 months or so, once you get it you are stuck with your employer for 2 years, its a condition of the visa. verystormy
Or just do the 2 years with the employer to qualify for the 856 and normally the employer pays it all and there are no conditions

I certainly hope it's not a 5 month wait! I've been told by my migration agent RSMS 857 applications are taking 2-4 weeks to process at the moment. My application went in on the 6 March, I received an acknowledgement letter and they took my money, since then nothing, so I think your 2-4 weeks is a bit optomistic

Just hope we don't go to the bottom of the pile as it can't be granted whilst we are away. 6 weeks I've been off work so far waiting for this to come through, wish my employer had been more organised! No, our agent told us we aren't entitled to a bridging visa because our WHV doesn't expire until the end of June, so we are going in and out of the country on that visa. The agent said that once we leave Australia the application will go 'on hold' (DIAC have been informed of our travel dates) and then be looked at once we get back. They've said we can go on a bridging visa at the end of June when our WHV expires if it hasn't been granted by that point - but I seriously hope it's sooner than that as not working is hurting us financially and I feel totally out of the loop with work after taking 6 months to establish myself.
