How easy will it be for an Engineer in the oil and gas engineer to get sponsorship

My OH is a Technical Safety Engineer in the Oil and Gas industry. We are relocating to Perth in August with the hope of getting sponsored. Anyone there that could advise us on the demand for engineers at the moment and how likely sponsorship will be? We have had no luck with job offers whilst being in the UK so we have decided to come to Perth on a working holiday visa and seek employment and sponsorship!

Should be fairly easy. Don't concentrate too much on the seek.com.au website as often there are 25 adverts for the same job.

I would type in technical safety jobs perth into google and see what comes up and look at the operators websites. Also companies like RPS may be looking, and if you want to work on the other side of the table NOPSEMA is always looking to.

Hi Stu,

Not wanting to hi-jack the thread, but rather to add to it. I am a Structural Engineer (MIStructE), predominantly offshore jackets experience. The pay-scales I am seeing on seek.com.au would leave me much worse-off financially in Perth than in London. I guess a large part of this is that the jobs all seem to be permanent (i.e. high tax!) as opposed to contract work/rates in the UK. Would it be fair to say that the pay-scales shown on seek.com.au do not reflect what people are actually earning – as is often the case in the UK.

Any insights appreciated if possible.

My OH is a mechanical engineer in the Oil and Gas and had a Lead Pipeline job offer in Perth, the salary offered was comparable with salary he was on at the time working in the Oil and gas in Aberdeen, using the exchange rate of 2.2.

It is difficult to tell with Seek as it is mostly agencys that are posting.

The pay scales don't reflect reality. I was an contractor in Aberdeen and I'm on just about double what I was there, that said the cost of the living is double.

Sorry for delay in response - have been away on holiday (The climate in spain reminded me of what it will be like in Perth:biggrin:)

thanks for the replies, looks like I need to hunt down some of these other perth based agencies. . . . .

I came out 3 weeks ago on a 475 regional sponsored visa and have found a company willing to sponsor me to 457 within a week. It is so much easier once you are here and register with recruitment agencies.....Steve

You are not going to go from a 475 to 457??
