Guest slmurphy1
Coming over on a 457 at the end of July and the cost of the short term lets is extortionate (double a normal rent). Seen a few threads where people have got around the pre-viewing bit for a medium term let and was wonder how they did this? Is it an Agency preference or some wierd rule? Did these lucky souls go through private landlords to skip this step or is it a case of throwing money and references at them? I want to be somewhere near Canning Vale where the ave rent is about $450 to $500 for a 3 bed and what i'd save from being in a short term let for 8 weeks I could have another 2 months rent on a normal let! On the Canning Vale front, every house I see on realestate.com looks beautiful and peaceful - are there any areas in CV or surrounding to avoid?? Am sure I could cope for 6 months if we end up in a bit of a dodgy one!?
Guest 4lex
Go private. Gumtree is a good starting point.

I have an executive-style 4 bed 2 bathroom home coming on the market in the newer part of town in Banksia Grove at $460 per week. Should be available around mid-July. I also have a beachfront 3 bed 2 bath home with large pool in Quinns Rocks coming on the market at $700 per week.
verystormy
I would be very very careful about renting before seeing. Perth suburbs are a bit funny and what suits one person can be hell for another. Even if you only get a 2 week short term rental, that is better than arriving unseen. jackboots
Also the suburb could be great , the neighbours hell !
Guest Claire and Brian
You're not going to know what the neighbours are like after a viewing tho surely?
jackboots
But if you can drive by a few times and see if you would like a six or twelve month lease? Would you rather not see? We have looked at rentals this way and seen massive lorries in the drive, join marks on the street etc everyone decides differently!

Try Oz house rentals, they got us a short term fully furnished house in Rockingham, for the same price as an unfurnished rental, it was a bit far out but the rates were good, and we were by the beach, we moved into the canning vale area after 2 months in Rockingham, we struggled to get a rental, in your price range, the most popular rental is the 3 bed and loads turned up for the viewings, as we were first time tennants you end up on the bottom of the pile, we ended up going upmarket to 4 beds, this halved the number of applicants and gave us a chance, it worked, dont know how to get around the viewing, they are very insistant that you need to go to the viewing, in fact the application forms are handed out at the viewing, perhaps friends could go do the viewing for you
