aussiebird2012
Hi all, We have a very tight budget and have thought about renting a hire car for a while so that we can attend intervies and generally getting around. This way we wont take a big chunk out of our savings that we will need to set ourselves up with. Has anyone done this and could you recommend any decent hire companies in the Mandurah and surrounding areas? How much is a hire car (depending on car of course) roughly and what about insurance etc etc..... SECONDLY.................. If anyone has a cheap second hand run around in the Mandurah and surrounding areas that you know may be sale around beginning of October i would love to hear from you. This would be another option as we can always get a newer car in the future. If you anyone that maybe selling their car privately please let me know. Not sure about buying from garage/dealer has havent looked into that yet. Look forward to hearing from you. xx
bpremji
For car hire, you may want to check these guys out: http://www.bayswatercarrental.com.au/ They are a no frills car hire company, not sure if the location suits you... CKR
Hi aussiebird2012, Just to give you a rough idea, when we arrived we picked up a hire car from Burswood Car Rentals which we found to be one of the cheapest, and for a Kia Rio from 6th March to 12th May it cost us approx $2,400. This inc the rego, extra insurance, Easter surcharge and GST xxxx

jamesw
When you arrive in Mandurah and are looking for a car, pop into the Hyundai dealer and ask to see "Haggis" He will help you out.

Sarab
There is no such thing as a 'cheap car' in Oz - believe me. A 25 year old piece of complete $hiT will set you back $1000, and you won't believe the mileage on cars either. There is no MOT in WA either, so i think if you are buying an old car it could be a death trap (that's only my opinion!). I have been here 4 months and have managed on public transport - I am getting to the point where I want a car now though - I have always had a car since I was 17 - but I have adapted well considering. Car hire is quite expensive (in my opinion) too. Take a look on Gumtree - it will give a you a feel for second hand cards - I was shocked by the prices!! It's an eye opener!! Cars are not only expensive so is the servicing and the state tax you need to pay when buying one. One of the big problems is that young famiies get caught up in the new house game and end up so far from Perth that they need at least one, if not two cars, and then totally end up relying on them. Yes it is hot here and a car helps a lot but if people can plan ahead then trying to use a mix of public transport, their feet and family car sharing really places less need on multiple cars. We are going to move house soon and since we have been here a good number of years now our tactics will include a place near a train station again for sure. We hardly use our car and it makes it a lot, lot easier on the pocket.
