hi there

the best person to contact is tavis.shearer@dhappointments.com.au he runs my civil side of the business. if you email your resume and tell him that I told you to contact him. Also if you can mention when you are coming over. Tavis in on holiday as of next week so he may respond to you after then.

He is looking for 15 concrete finishers urgently I know that.

Thanks Dean very much appreciated!

Do you ever deal with the residential side of construction as this is an area my husband has been in mostly with a few commercial/civil projects in between.

Will contact Tavis anyway, thank you very much for the information.

Hi Dean, are you the guy i have read about on the BBC News website ( click on Asia ). I am looking for a site managers job and have been applying like mad to the adverts. I have exp and my SMSTS cert in the UK, but have had no luck in applying over here. I am a brickie by trade and had my own company for 5 years also. I would be happy to email you my resume to see what you think.

All the best

Farrell

You sound like myself and my other half (mostly my other half lol), was about to ask Dean if they dealt in the residential side of things too as i neglected to do this earlier, my husband has completed some commercial and civil projects in site management / senior site management but has in most recent years been in residential, he also is a brickie by trade.

Where are you heading out to and when Farrell?

It seems that all us construction workers are in the same boat. skint, no job, no rental, No transport, no aussie qualifications, no WA experience , no chance !!!!

But life's for adventures , better to say tried it than if only

Ha ha quality Ian. I can tick one of that list mate. I have a rental for three months, no chance on anything else though:biglaugh:

. I actually had a company asking me to call them when I land today. Heard that before but it is a slight positive nonetheless. I agree Ian,it is all a big adventure and I cant wait.

Hey

Hope you don't mind me jumping in! I'm a joiner and have my own company in Glasgow, me and my wife are going to Perth in April flights all booked. We hope to bring about 10k to.

We have only got the 1 year working holiday visa and was going to start to apply for a visa, its really costly and hopfully in falls into place when i'm there. Is this a wise idea? I have heard that once your over there and show them your a hard worker most likely you will get sponcerd. Have any of you's heard this?

I need to sell my 2 vans and all the tools i have built up, scaffolds etc. How are you getting all your tools over and what you taking?

Good luck to you all

Hi mate,

as I said above us plumbers being more intelligent etc etc have to get a provisional licence .

i got mine through vetasses during the visa process and the TRA verified and I know have an Australian level 3 overseas cert.

on arrival in Perth I can only work for a licenced plumber providing I undertake a 2 week gap training course within 6 months.

To work or myself, I would have to do a Business course and a plumbing course in which could take up to 2 years.

like you I've got my own uk business and am very busy at present , it's going to be scary to give up what you know and have to start again with nothing and from the bottom.

when do you sell your car, van.

tell the tax , vat office that your closing your business , sop taking on work. It's all really daunting and scary when you sit back and think about it .

not knowing if there's work or finding work, schools , rentals the lit is endless. Just hope everything fits into place .

im going over on a PR 176 SS visa , hopefully in jan , booking flights in next few weeks ( if I've finished all my work before than) !!!

Good luck mate

Best thing is for you to keep saying to yourself, 'when I arrive in Perth I will find work.' Keep thinking about what you need to happen and then it will happen in some way or another. Keep positive my man!

Hey

All plumbers say there the most intelligent, you's keep dreaming!!! Thats why most managers etc are JOINERS lol.

I'm looking forward to working for someone again, won't be easy tho as iv been my own boss for years. I'd like to get into a management position just a foreman position. Being doing it for years in my own company. There is certainly more opportunitys out in Perth than here in the uk.

Most people I speak to that have friends or family in Aus say if you go over more likely you'll not be back!! hope so!!!

I don't think its easy for any of us tradesman especially sparks and plumbers over here. Im a spark but i am gonna have to start doing labouring for a bit as i am having no luck finding work on a restricted license. Be prepared to not work for a while and to be bored to death of phoning, emailing CV's and applying online for jobs

Hi

Mmm your message so caught my eye. My husband also has the same experience and a bit more with machinery, HGV etc, you have to have tickets for almost everything you do and use, costing more money once your actually in the country, he will need a white card before he starts any work. any machinery he may use will need a ticket or license. we have been in OZ for almost five months and he has not been employed once, finding work in the trade is very difficult unless you already know someone, its not good for tradies at all.

each state is different but seems to be the same for tradies finding work.

So TRADIES be prepared or think of another career option before you even leave the UK, my husband has completed the MR license and forklift truck and starting the HR next week for his chances of being employable i'm sorry but OZ is rediculous with the way they are with tradies, some tradies are so highly qualified and skilled and it like they become a junior all over again

forgot to mention we spoke to a ground worker last week who is now a security guard in a hospital to just get work, also costing him money as you need a license for that too

It sounds no differnet to the uk. You need tickets for all here. The white card is like our CSCS and again compulsory on most sites.
