piccolo
as far as I know, Perth itself is classed as regional so you don't necessarily have to live way out. I live in Bunbury though and it's just lovely!
DyLeB
Perth is not classified as Regional under the 489 Regional Visa. (unless you are family sponsored) A condition of this visa is you can not work in Perth. A list of the eligible postcodes can be found on the WA site. I you want to live or work in Perth you will need to apply for the 190 visa.

Druid
You can come to Perth on a RSMS Visa, but you will have to get a job and get your employer to sponsor you
verystormy
It depends on what you do for a living as to which regional area is good for you.

Druid
Joondalup is still classed as Perth, Mandurah might also be, so you cant live and work in those areas:- The list below is a post code areas where you can live and work

Western Australia except Perth and surrounding areas 6041 to 6044 6083 to 6084 6121 to 6126 6200 to 6799

verystormy
Mandurah is classed as regional. An electrician should be fine but as for finance, there isn't a lot of big business here. It's a sea side town / holiday place.

Soha
Hi, Perth is not considered as region area but if you have a family sponsored they will let you live in Perth .but if you are on state nominated you will need to live in regions like Mandurah, Peel, Bunburry.. Chook
Bunbury is a great area for children. There are plenty of schools to choose from, lots of parks and sports facilities, good hospitals and amenities, great beaches. All the things you need to sustain a well balanced lifestyle. Bunbury is also the gateway to the South West and the many wonderful things it has to offer. Housing in Bunbury and surrounds is affordable, much more so than Perth. In regards to work prospects, have a look at the employment section in http://www.thewest.com.au.
