Arwen
I wouldn't be sending my children to school in Balga for a start. Most schools won't take proper enrolments until you arrive and you would be better, IMO, leaving it until you have a permanent rental in the area you want to be in. Check out the schools results and information on the My School website. For instance here are the stats for one of the primary schools in Balga. Makes for interesting reading! http://www.myschool.edu.au/MainPages/NAPLANResultsTable.aspx?SDRSchoolId=48565&DEEWRId=0&CalendarYear=2011&RefId=H2wIyj9MiDDERrKdnkLn4w%3d%3d

Any advice would be appreciate It could be that they are on holiday? Schools cpuld be on their winter break? It could be that the administrator does not know how to use the Internet (don't laugh very common here in a lot of cases that I have come across)? It could be that in WA (Wait a While) that they will get round to at some point - get used to that as well by the way As for Balga. Nothing wrong with it if you want to toughen your kids up. I suppose it all depends on what they are used to at the moment. If it is straw hats and boaters then Balga is not for you. Anything else and it would be a learning experience for them. ali
Some areas won't enrol until you have a longer term rental (not holiday accommodation). I didn't find a problem emailing schools and getting a reply before we came (and still don't if I have a query), so may be this particular school, the other thing is some schools have recently changed contact addresses, so unless you're doing it from the school website page (and not a link from a forum for example), the address might not be the current one. Pinkpopy123
Thanks for all your replys. This is so hard!!!! Ive been looking on these schools sites at their reports, its so hard to choose a suburb to live in never mind finding a descent school. The schools theyve been have there own small groups of mischevious kids but the schools give a good education. Every school is gonna have that surely. My kids can cope with that kind of thing as they ignore it and get on with their own work, it doesnt bother them but i at least want to know the teachers can control it and change it where possible, definatly where bullying is concerned. So you guys who live in north Perth, im gonna be working in subiaco, i dont want a huge travel to work, but where are the descent suburbs with descent schools then??? Pingpongpom2
Aw, it is difficult Pp123..especially from the UK..it's easier when you get there, because you can look around at areas to live & visit schools, to get a feel for things..i only know about different suburbs like Balga, because i grew up in Perth and have lived there as an adult..I have e-mailed schools from the UK, when we first went back 13 years ago & now again for our youngest, and have had replies and one e-mailed me an application form, so maybe just keep trying..obviously it's difficult until you know the suburb you'll live in, but i can understand you wanting to get the ball rolling:smile:..i know Subiaco, as we have lived in Shenton Park & Yokine..our children went to Yokine Primary and went very well there..what areas interest you to live in? Are you the lady i have chatted to before, going to be working at King Eddie's?...

Any school officer who does not know how to reply to an email sent to the school website should not be in their job! More likely that the point of contact that the website email is sent is either off, or has handed it to a more junior staff member to deal with, or is extremely busy right now entering enrolments for next year. I know anyone emails us with queries from abroad, I at least acknowledge their email and tell them what they need to supply to enrol - I will not however send out an enrolment form until they are living in the catchment area. lozzachino
Hi, how do you find out what the catchment areas are for schools? Have been doing lots of googling but haven't managed to find anything yet? Thanks!
Guest Paur
Hi, how do you find out what the catchment areas are for schools? Have been doing lots of googling but haven't managed to find anything yet? Thanks! The school websites show the catchment areas. I would wait until you get here before deciding on an area as you can enrole and start straight away so there is no need to do it before hand. Totally agree but I work with some public service organisations in Perth and I can assure you I have seen contact e-mails left for weeks before they are either replied to or just forgotten about. Yes even now in 2012. Not everything is perfect in this world I am afraid.

Thanks, I'm not going to decide now but it would be useful to know when looking for a rental what schools would be the local ones.
