Guest jojo_muir
Yeah, I think the main clause is just ensuring that you're in Oz and in the zone. Not sure about Glendalough. You should be able to go to the government's edu website and check out the zones. Could that fall into Mt Lawley? Not sure. Churchlands is a fabulous high school. Great music program and it's extension maths/literacy programs have an excellent reputation. Really nice surrounding suburbs too. Woodlands is great, as is Wembley Downs. If you're looking around the area, anywhere near the Bournemouth shopping centre is great - nice bakery, new IGA and a good GP clinic, not too far from the beach, access to the freeway... linda@no9
We made 2 phone calls. One at primary, had a meeting with the principal and he enrolled her there and then. She is in a split year 2/3 group as she officially would be in year 3 in uk, but finishing up Australian year 2. Older daughter at a senior high. Again, meeting with assist principal who looked at daughters GCSE grades to determine where she would 'sit' in the group. Again, enrolled that day. As she has officially finished her year 11 in uk, she is in Australian year 11 for social reasons only and determine which subjects she wants to take for her final year 12. Both schools have good reputations. We actually found the process extremely easy. We gave our 6 month rental agreement with a utility bill. We are currently trying to find our next unfurnished rental in the catchment but if not then I have a 10 min drive. No great shakes for me and not an issue for the school either it seems
Give me a break!
I've moved out of catchment and there hasn't been a problem. My son starts at a private highschool just down the road in Feb though.

I know that Rossmoyne regularly check the addresses of it's families. For your bog standard school it isn't an issue but with the top state high schools it can be. Guest frugalsar
HI, I've just accepted a job at Sir Charles Gairdner hospital and was hoping to live close by, Churchlands is the school I was looking at too but I know nothing at all about the school system over there except that they start in february! Can anyone tell me what age children start high school in perth? mine are 10 and 11 so my eldest would have been starting high school this september (we are aiming to move in march - aug visa depending) would she start in the feb at age 12? Are they any good primary schools in this area that feed into Churchlands the way primaries do over here? I really like the look of Churchlands and will try to find accomodation close by! also I'm confused about the whole gov. / private schools thing - gov. school are free right? even if your a temp. resident? I really want to get the schools and timing right as my daughter has been very upset at the thought of leaving her friends (my son, the younger one is pleased as punch to be going) she's at that akward age and is a shy child anyway, I'm terrrified she's not going to settle! To start high school in 2014 your child would have to been born between 1st July 2000 and 30th June 2001.

Guest jojo_muir
Churchlands, Woodlands, Wembley Downs... they're all really nice areas. You wont want to park at Charlies though. Even though they're building a new multi-storey carpark at the moment, I can only imagine the price-tag! I'd probably head closer to Daglish, Floreat for more bus options (?) Churchlands high school is really nice. The school zone changes along Oceanic Road so you have to be north of Oceanic to be in the Churchlands zone, otherwise you're in the Shenton Park College zone. All this info though will be on the schools' websites. Churchlands primary school 'feeds' into Churchlands Highschool but there are lots of schools in the area. There is a shuttle bus from the Graylands Hospital to Charlie's, so you can park and ride. There are 3 schools within walking distance from the shuttle bus - Quintilian, Moerlina and possibly John XXIII. You might want to google these too... zzidane
Sorry to hijack this thread, only we move to Perth in Jan and will be living with friends until we can find a place to buy. They live in the catchment for both Senior and Primary schools we want to send our kids back to and we will be buying again in this area too. Yes we are pinging back and really want to get them back into their old schools. We have contacted the school's and they have given us a list of evidence to prove where we will be living once there. We will not be renting so no rental agreement to back us up. Bank account's are registered to this address we will be living at already. Centrelink and medicare documents are on the list. Can we register this address with centrelink and medicare? Its all a distant memory when we did this first time round. Do we need to be in the country to register being returning residents. Thanks in advance Pete

Arwen
We have 5 year RRVs, original visas expired march 12. Will this make a difference? As long as you have a RRV that is fine, it wasn't clear from your post. I wasn't trying to be smart just some people leave the country not realising they need one if they want to come back at a later date. Good luck with your move. Lindsayg
If you staying in a rental for less than 12 months can you still enrole your child in a school. Only the school called Churchlands Senior High says not on the web site. Can anyone tell me which other school's will take you with less rental agreement? I am a little stressed so sorry if this has been asked before. My son is just 14 years old. Also do you have to waite till you arrive in Perth or will schools let you enrole from the Uk? look forward to your relpy[/
Lindsayg
The schools I looked at wouldn't see you until you had a copy of a rental agreement for 12 months but once we picked the schools they let the kids start the next day. It's also worth keeping out records of immunisation as they look for that too - good luck

Trust me we know, had to move heaven and earth to get the RRV's. Then day they were granted DIAC moved the goal posts and stopped issuing 5 yr visas. We must have got the last ones.
