Guest Janine Wragg
Hi, I'm very new to Poms in Perth...We are moving over to Perth in 2 weeks time from SA, we are a family of 6, we have 2 children and 2 dogs. I have a job secured and we are looking for a short term or long term rental in around Aubin Grove/South lakes/Spearwood/Hamilton Hill/Baldivis area. We have good references having moved 8 months ago from the UK and our dogs very well trained and behaved. Can anyone help me out please???? Chook
Hi Janine. Start with http://www.thewest.com.au / Real Estate / Rent. Enter Baldivis, Rockingham, Secret Harbour and check 'surrounding areas'. Many of the available properties do not specify whether or not pets are allowed, but you can always phone the agent to ask - they may have others on their books that are suitable. Where exactly is your work place situated?

Guest indalees
Hi Janine, I will hopefully be looking to come out to Perth this time next year as long as my job application goes ok! I have 4 dogs at the minute, one of which may well stay behind with family as she is getting on a bit. I have heard it is near impossible to get rentals with dogs. Obviously I do not want to get out there to find out I cannot find anywhere to live, it would be a total nightmare. I would be interested to hear how you get on! I know a lot of councils only allow 2 dogs per house, if I can bring all 4 that would be brilliant but I don't know if that will be feasible or not. If you have any inf which may be of help it would really be appreciated, Lisa
Guest firedart
Hi. With regard to trying to find a rental to accept dogs, I fear you will have difficulty. Some rentals do allow pets but in this difficult rental market with lots of people chasing the same rentals and lots of people applying at the same time, you may find that agents/landlords will give preference to the applicants who do not have pets. It's just the way it works here. I have even known landlords that will give preference to couples without children over couples who have children...unfair I know but the way it is viewed in the agents or landlords eyes is: less pets or children = less damage and maintenance to rental property. Renting is VERY strict over here, you are not even allowed to put up your children's pictures with blue tac on the walls!! The slightest damage eg: chipped paintwork, weeds in the garden, will have monies retained from your bond paid. Also I must add that I am pretty sure that by law you are only allowed to keep 2 dogs? I know there is a limit, not sure if has changed at all but the last info I had regarding this it was limited to 2 dogs per household, if you are a new arrival to Australia maybe not a good idea to flaunt the law I understand how you feel, I have a dog that is a very strong part of our family. Sorry if this sounds negative but it is the way it is and I know I would rather be warned than learn a very expensive or time consuming lesson. Good luck in your search and move
