Am living in the city,East Perth, my husband and I have got to move, and are looking at Mandurah?????? My hubby is on FIFO, and I luv socialising and nights with the girlies, can anyone kindly let me know about social life in Mandurah. M on the Point does some nice food, as well as good beer and a lovely view of the estuary. Cafe Pronto and Spur also have a good repretation and if you want a really late night, O'Neills or The Brighton. If you like being out and about to different places then stay put in Perth and at least that way you have the city that offers variety, trains to Freo and all that that place has and also a range of options in terms of bars and eateries in near by places like Mount Lawley, Nedlands, Kings Park etc. After a month in Mandurah you will be jumping on a train back to Perth for a night out. glenvin Posted October 13, 2012 Report Share Posted October 13, 2012 Hi Julie We are in our early 50's and although we now live in Mandurah we lived in East Perth for a number of years when we first moved to Aus over 10 years ago. We too love our nights out to bars and restaurants and loved the variety of living in an area that was so close to everything. The only reason we moved to Mandurah was that my husbands work was mostly down here and was more convenient before he went FIFO. The only reason we haven't returned to Perth was that I work on a local minesite and do DIDO and doing that each day from Perth would be too much as I work very long hours. There are pro's and con's to each place but to be honest if your husband in FIFO I would stay in Perth as there is more going on and things to do to keep you busy. Don't get me wrong Mandurah is a nice place with some really friendly people and great if you have a young family. We don't have children and find that there is not much choice in the area for nice bars and restaurants and you can get very bored with the limited choice. Yes there is the train to and from Perth but we prefer to book a hotel and stay the night in Perth or Freo (which we do on a regular basis). My advice to you on what you have said is to stay put especially if you have made friends up there as I did and now find we don't get to see each other as often as we would like. I was so unsure, but feel so much happier here. I never thought I would leave the city life because I luv to socialise and was worrid my friends would not do the trek, and I would miss the buzz!! Friends have come down and if I goto city I just jump on train, am use to public transport which is frequent and good!! Have found some bars, Oyster bar fab and restaurants. When we were in city we only used 2/3 bars and always couldn't decide where to eat, as its usually all pub food, but here smaller choice of bars but am finding that better and more choice of restaurants. I know its early days but to my suprise I feel more contented and happy, I have spoken to more people here than I did for two years in the city. Posted November 4, 2012 Report Share Posted November 4, 2012 We love Mandurah and it is actually classed as a City, which is quite funny, but also it is one of the fastest growing Cities in Australia so its going to get bigger. We are also looking into the area so it is nice to hear you are settling in well, keep us all posted on how you are finding it, looks like a lovely area, if we do get our visa granted next year we will be visiting to activate our visa first and visit potential employers for m husband as he is worried about giving p his job and life to go over to oz and find no jobs available, I'm sure many people are in the same boat as us and it is a big worry! anyway best of luck christine xx Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Couldnt see us ever living in Perth and my wife was worried that Sydney was going to be too small before we came to Oz. Its all about a different lifestyle. We are torn at the moment between the new apartments in Burswood and the Marina apartments in Mandurah. We have lived in BooragoonPerth since February in an enormous house that was freezing all winter as I'm sure you know they don't have central heating in Perth! So it's an apartment next for us with reverse cycle aircon! Not made any friends here yet apart from acquaintances at the gym. I'm finding it hard as my husband goes away for two weeks at a time and I'm really homesick for England! We loved mandurah but everyone here from the gym and my husbands work keep going on about bogans ( whatever they are ha!) being quite rife in Mandurah, and this has been putting us off a bit. Hoping to make the move in the first part of 2013. we are "assuming" that we will try and be around Perth ... But when I read up info on mandurah, I figure this may be an option. We have no jobs lined up... Hubby is a painter... Just looking to be sor, so we have more options north and south. any info on sor places to live or mandurah or work opportunities ... Totally agree Mandurah is great, quieter but still fun, luv the dolphine Quays, have some friends stayin tonight and off to the Oyster Bar then Thai don't get much better lol.
