jonleannejack
Hi All, Just a quick question, has anyone out there got a car on finance and what was the process. How long do you need to have been working for and what % deposit do they look for. Unsure how it will work with having no credit history on arrival. Thanks in advance. WelshKiwis
Hi Jon our rellys arrived in Perth in March. They have bought a car on finance. They said that all the garages wanted proof of income for 3mths. They all wanted different deposits though. Suppose it depends where you go. It was the same when we moved to NZ. We needed 3mths payslips and on a $20k 6mths old car we had to pay $4k deposit. That was at a dealership. The second hand car yards were offering much lower deposits. We just wanted to get a newer ar with warranty as we know zilch about cars !

Guest Francine
We arrived 3 weeks ago and bought a brand new car on finance last week. Neither of us had started work but my husband had a contract saying he was due to start work on the Monday. We paid $1000 deposit on a $32000 car! We were approved there and then! Couldn't believe how easy it was!

Guest Francine
Hi Francine, that does sound easy. Do you mind sending me the name of garage, might have to pay them a visit. Cheers It was Toyota in Rockingham. We bought a new car on their 0% finance deal. We had to provide a lot of info like a rent agreement, a healthy bank balance and work contracts but it all went through ok. Hope this helps x
phil
Had no hassle with a permanent visa. If on a temporary visa eg 457, a lot of places will do a finance deal, but limit it to the expiry date of the visa.
hawks
We just got a car loan on a 457 visa. Generally bank loans are unsecured so they are very fussy. Car dealers and companies like getapproved.com.au secure the car against the loan, so can be slightly more lenient. I had about a 50% deposit on a 30k car, so wasn't too hard to get a loan for the rest. It'll differ whereever you go but generally the bigger the deposit the easier it will be.
