awildsmith
Have you checked at your local vets ? Good on you for going down the rescue route. Its the best way to go as there are too many unwanted animals out there already. The Golden Oldies need a chance to and are often the best!! There are so many rescue groups but I volunteer for S.A.F.E perth (saving animals from euthanasia) and its one of my passions. They are all over WA with about 200 foster carers working for them. I am a dog foster carer and last year my family fostered and rehomed 7 fur babies! I love their happy endings. Anyway could go on for ever about this but basically look up Pet Rescue and S.a.f.e perth on line. Good luck with your lovely new family member. Where ever you end up going adopting a second chance dog is the best. I also believe that they know you are giving them that extra special chance!! Guest guest1337
Get a greyhound! Awesome pets! Have a look at GAP website ( greyhounds as pets) also there a greyhound picnic event on in south Perth this coming Sunday with dogs that are looking for new homes. Give me a break!
We fostered a 5 months on Great Dane pup not so long ago, they need homes for olders dogs, but they do prefer previous Dane owners due to their sheer size. Good luck

gobbyjock
We adopted our blue heeled from k9 over 5 years ago now, have to say I can't fault her, she was 6 months old when we got her, a friend does voluntary there, they get a lot of dogs in. One thing I would say is don't rush in to a decision, if it doesn't feel right then leave it until the right dog does come along.

I can totaly understand your post . the reason i mentioned the vets was having worked at a vets we used to hear first off about Rehoming sancturies and owners who maybe could not keep their pets any longer ( whatever their age and breed ) due to personal situations . We also used to keep numbers for rehoming organizations of specific breeds i;e German sheps or cockers or others All animals deserve a good home home and there are too many that are passed along through neglect/abuse or indifference or they thought it was a good idea until 5 months after AKA the christmas puppy !!. I have a friend who has just flown a dog over from the East coast as it was a rehome and she wanted that breed ..( he is also an older dog ) much happiness on both sides

It's easy to get guilted into a hearstring moment and not good or fair on the dogs/ cats etc later on to have to rehome again
