coastie
Hi. For WA you also have to apply for sponsorship and pay $200. Is your occupation on the WA wanted skills list?
coastie
http://www.migration.wa.gov.au You just need 60 points for state sponsorship. Any points above that don't count for anything.

stu4668
I think I can see what I have to do now on the WA Government website, I assume this is the reason why I have not had an invite on skills select
coastie
Yes. All states are different. For WA you put in your EOI first and then apply for State Sponsorship from WA. After a few weeks, if you are successful, they will send you something to sign and send back. Very shortly after that you will get an invite. Yes. The invites arrive very soon after you've got state sponsorship. The application form for state sponsorship is all done online. You have to fill in everything you mentioned above. It's not difficult. currently it looks like the application takes 5 weeks to get a case officer assigned and then another couple of weeks after that assuming all your medicals and police checks are fine. stu4668
do they advise you when to go and get medicals and police checks done?
coastie
Yes. The case officer will request them. It's up to you if you want to do them earlier but you will only save a few weeks.

Are you in the process or are you over there and settled? we did a reccie in august to perth, melbourne and cairns - loved the place but would like to settle in Perth
coastie
I can't believe you've waited since July for an invite! You could have been on the beach by now. I'm still waiting for my visa. I applied for state sponsorship but got an invite for a 189 visa the day after I paid $200 to WA. I cancelled the state sponsorship and applied for 189. I also did a reccie in March. I visited Melbourne and Perth but Perth was the place for me. Much more laid back and far better weather. The 40 degree heat didn't bother me at all. I've also got a lot of family in Perth (over 30 of them!). Good luck with your application. Coastie.

Coastie. we put in the EOI on 01/07/12, every month I have been asking the wife any emails yet for an invite!!! it was only the other night she raised the question do we need to get WA sponsorship? thats why I posted the question but also found the answer on WA government website. Feel a right fool that we have waited so long without realising. any fingers crossed and hopefully we will be invited by WA

Also why do you have to select 3 different areas in WA?, I only want Perth area
Guest ParthShah
Helllo Dear, I have applied my state sponsorship with EOI in the first week of December. I am workinig as an Electrical Engineer and I have done my skill assessment as an Electronics Engineer. The website says you should be working in your occupation or closely related occupation. I think Electrical and Electronics are the closely related occupation. Do you think in my case I will be invited ? How long will it take? stu4668
had the email from Skills Select today stating that WA have viewed our application, case officer allocated, now I suppose just wait and see what happens!!!!
CharliePappa
Hi it will probably only take a couple more days. We submitted about a 3000 word essay on why we had chosen WA and the three regions etc. Not sure if it helped us but its a nightmare trying to 2nd guess what they value. And it doesnt get any easier once you do get invited. I'm constantly checking the status and up loading as much information as I can. Then its just a matter of sitting and waiting, then you check again to see if anything has changed, anything at all. Its a nightmare mate! WELL I certainly didnt submit a 3000 word essay, I am hoping that isnt the requirement, surely if everyone submitted 3000 word essays it would limit the amount of visas a case officer could review? Well i suppose time will tell, I basically informed them I had done a reccie in three different states in oz, had close friends in WA, done some informal interviews with potential employers to confirm jobs were available for wifes skills and had sufficient funds to support a family for approx 8 months with no jobs - lets hope thats enough!!!! fingers crossed
stu4668
so has charliepapa started the DIAC visa process?
CharliePappa
Hi, yes we were invited after around 20 days after submitting our application for State Sponsorship, we submitted our application for the visa on the 31st December 2012 and sent our police checks away around a week ago and had our medicals last friday. Dont have a Case Officer yet, but just uploading documents as the list is updated.
stu4668
where do you go for medicals and police checks? was the DIAC appliaction hard to complete? are you doing it on your own? if we get state sponsorship I might be calling on your guidance/expertise!!!! stu4668
just had the email this morning stating that we have been granted WA State sponsorship :ssign19:I assume this is signed by the main visa applicant and sent back. Does skills select contact you next to start the 190 visa application? when and where do you go for police and medical checks?
CharliePappa
Awesome, when you log into your expression of interest page on DIAC you will see that you will have an apply tab. You just click on that and work your way through. At the end of it there's the rather painful bit where you have to pay! The application is nothing really that you havent done already for WA and Skills Assessment etc. It would be worth your while scanning in copies of important documents though as you will need to upload these as you move further through the process. And yes, you need to sign your invitation, scan it and send it back, then it will take a couple of days to be processed and you will receive your invitiation to apply. Let me know if you need anymore help. Cheers Charlie
