lozzachino
Hi all, just looking at all our arrival plans, does anyone know if you find a place at a daycare can the kids start asap. Do they do any settling in sessions like they do in the uk? Just wondering if one of us gets a job offer we need to have a daycare option on hand. Guest Bellaleggos
Hi yep most day cares do orientation where you take the child for an hour of 2 or 3 occasions before they actually start. In my sons daycare it was 3 x 1 hr sessions but I had to stay in the centre for this time, although I left the room he was in. Remember though daycare places in good reputable day cares are very hard to come by. Hope this helps.
phil
My partner spent a good few weeks going round various daycares well in advance of our boy being able to go. One of them had 30-odd places and a waiting list of 500+. I'm sure you could find somewhere quickly, but it may not be your first choice. Our boy started a few weeks ago and had one settling-in session of a few hours. He seemed to take to it OK. You may be eligible to get 50% of the cost paid - check http://www.mychild.gov.au/childcarerebate/

On Monday they were settling in for 2 hours. We put their names down and had to wait a few weeks for places for both of them. Not sure how representative that is of other places tho. lozzachino
Thanks everyone. We are here now and our closest centre has a 12/18 mth waiting list! Another has a space coming up in a week or so, so guess it just depends where and when we want it!

phil
My partner spent quite a while going round various day cares. All the ones she liked had long waiting lists :-(
lozzachino
What area are you looking at kerry, might help narrow it down!
KerryAndSteve
Ideally around Ocean Reef, Mullaloo or Kallaroo. Other areas we are looking at are Carine, Duncraig, and Double View. That said, child care plays a huge part in where we decide on settling. Even considering trying to get a child are spot for the youngest in the CBD.
