House of school - cart before horse??

I would appreciate input from those who have moved NOR regarding good schools both primary & secondary.

I have become slightly fixated on Duncraig HS and was wondering if I should look at other areas as well which have equally good primary and secondary schools. I was hoping anyone could give me input regarding the primary schools in the DHS catchment area (Glengarry, Davalia, Hillarys, Sorrento, Padbury, South Padbury).

We are looking to rent initially for 1-2 years to "get the lie of the land" so to speak before buying. Looking at the Duncraig area however the rentals seem a little higher than parts SOR.

Any thoughts most welcome please.

Not sure if this helps but..... DHS is where a business contact of mine, an Aussie $ millionare at least five time over, sent his two boys and he has never said a bad word about it and they both came out and went to uni so it must have been ok. He lives in the suburb and could easily have sent them to a private school but stuck to the public one.

The general rule of thumb we found was that the suburbs with the higher rents and higher house prices appeared to offer the better quality ps's and hs's. (I know that there can be exceptions to the rule.) Not rocket science really and so it is bite the bullet time. If you can afford the slightly more expensive suburbs then you should consider it. If you just cannot meet the prices then you either just have to accept a school in the suburb's catchment area you can afford or you can go to a slightly cheaper suburb, and save money on other things, so you can send the kids to a private school.

Duncraig is an excellent public school and is highly recommend but it is in an expensive suburb to buy and a great suburb to live in. All of the public schools in this area have a good reputation. Do your research on the schools in the areas you would like to live in, you will find heaps of info to help make an informed decision on the government websites. The private education system can be expensive and with waiting lists, so again do your research and remember the added extras like uniforms and books and trips which add significantly to the costs, each private school will have their own website. Good luck.
