Guest Chemicalsam
Hi guys, I've been offered a role in Perth with a salary of $177,000 plus super. Currently I live in Cardiff and earn £57000 plus the wife works (we rely on grandparents for babysitting) and earns £15000. If the wife can't work in oz will we have the same standard of living in oz? We have one daughter
StraighttothePoint
Not sure anyone could answer such an open question to be honest. Your standard of living will depend on where you want to live, if you want to rent or buy, what you want to spend your money on, how much debt you want to carry and so on. You might be two folk that eat a lot or two folk that eat salads Everything is relative. The best advice new folk are offered when posting a question like this is to search through the old threads, read what is being said about living costs and expenditure and to then work out a draft expenditure budget based on some of the tables that you find. $177k is a decent wage here considering many local people here are on circa a third of that. The guys we employ on that salary are taking home $5k per week and to be honest if you find it tough living on that then it would suprise me. That being said it is all back to how you budget and spend. You just need to do the research and it is all available on this site.

The taxman must be generous if he gives them a rebate of 83K a year! 5 x 52 =

StraighttothePoint
The taxman must be generous if he gives them a rebate of 83K a year! 5 x 52 = 260 Yep my apologies I was looking at another payslip and got my calculator figures round the wrong way when doing the sums. $177k per annum plus super is more like $2500 per week plus super. It still goes back to how much debt do you want to carry re the standard of living question I suppose. It is probably still a very good wage in comparison to what a large number of people in Perth are earning.

ali
Well, I think $177,000 pa is more than our combined salary and we seem to manage ... but of course don't live the high life.

Rosshf
I suppose what I'm asking is will 177,000 aus dollars give me the same lifestyle as £72000 in the uk? I think the short answer is yes. I've read on here that (as a rough guide) if you multiply your UK wages by 2.5 it gives an equivalent to $, so you are in that ballpark. I'm on 27k in the uk multiply by 2.5 gives me about 67k aud. my nursing salary in oz should give me about 65k so that works for me I could certainly live on $177k I'd love to give that a go through research I've estimated average outgoings for us as a family of 4 to be about $5K per month, this is just very average living tho, $500 pw rent, utilities, bills, petrol, food shopping, we have no debts in the UK and don't plan on lavish holidays once in oz or going to fancy restaurants but that suits us.
