Moving to Perth on my own in January!!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I am moving from Scotland out to Perth in January on my own, I am very excited but also a little scared. I will be working full time in the oil and gas industry in Perth City Centre. I am starting to get everything organised and I have done my research. I am a little bit worried after reading through previous threads about renting in Perth. After budgeting everything out I can spend max $450/week on an apartment. I want to live close to the city in a lively, sociable area, so I have been looking at apartments in Subiaco, West Leedersville and Mount Lawley area. Ideally I would like to find a 1 or 2 bedroom apartment in one of these areas; however, I have now started looking in to flat share in Perth CBD. As I am moving over on my own maybe a flatshare might be a good way of meeting new people and making new friends.

I would love to get feedback from anyone who has been in this position before or just from anyone who can help.

It would also be great to hear from anyone who is also moving out in January time, I am a 24 year old typical girl who loves shopping, keeping active, likes going out for a few cocktails and having a laugh.

Look forward to hearing from people,

Lauren

Hi Lauren,

I am a woman living alone (my husband is overseas) in the area you've mentioned. My rent is $430 week for a 1 bedroom plus study and is in a block of 4 so on your budget it is definitely doable. Where I live is a quiet area which I prefer but I can walk into Subi and Leederville (and even Perth if I'm really motivated). I'm also within walking distance to the train which makes life easier. It is not the cheapest area to live but it is a nice place if you want the convenience of getting to the city easily.

I don't know anything about flat shares but with any accommodation in Perth, I'd make sure you are clear on who the rental agreement is with and what your responsibilities are. I was illegally subletting the first place I moved into (not that I knew that at the time) and wouldn't recommend that drama to anyone.

Hello

I've just joined up as I am soon to make the move to Perth. Finally My visa was granted in March and I hope to move out on my own at the end of August.......without a job?! (Although there maybe an opportunity through the company I work for in Aberdeen but there is no guarantee)

Just wondering how you are finding life 6 months in, meeting new people, property, Perth in general etc........

Rory
