Hi,

I can only go off of what I've read and I may be corrected but here goes:

- the base salary is what you are paid before tax (the tax brackets are different in oz but it works out very roughly around the same, check out the government site for tax).

- The annual leave loading is what your 4 weeks holiday per annum is worth

- The motor vehicle is what your company car is worth in the eyes of the tax man per annum

- superannuation is your pension fund (the company will contribute $6,835 per annum into your pension fund)

- phone, you will be given a mobile or the cash equivilent ($500) per annum

Not sure about the sallary sacrifice but they take all that into concideration to come up with a total package of $106,637. but the way i see it (assuming you have a company car and mobile phone) you will actually be paid $75,952 before income tax per annum.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Ross not 100% if I am coming to Perth yet as have been offered same type of job in Vancouver Canada so got to sit down and weigh up the pros and cons lol ie all this stuff included in the wage package if I really new what it all means? Gaz H tried to explain it (thanks Gaz) but wanted someone who lives there and understans it all to give me some info.

Hi Nick - so hard advise you on the money front. Having a vested interest being a long time financial supporter of Guide Dogs WA, I say come here! But I totally get where you are coming from.

Having had a look at your original post, I realise that you will be starting at the base point of the salary scale, but that means that you will increase every year and would receive a totally funded car.

You might wish to look at the Australian Tax Office website http://www.ato.gov.au to see how your prospective income would affect you.

And you might also want to think about whether your family would be happier in the colder snowier climes of BC or in the warm mediteranean climes of Perth WA.

Good Luck with the decision but I do hope WA wins!!!

  • 4 weeks later...

Need to understand what your expenditure is going to include to give a useful opinion. i.e. are you renting?

For example my base salary is higher, I have one young child and the mrs to support. We had to lease a car at 775 pm and pay 450pw rent and have no money left at the end if the month....
