poppops
I want to take a whicker chair with me - family piece, but the removal company said this could cost at least $500... Has anyone taken anything like this and did it need spraying for bugs? Can you get it done in this country and gain a certificate.. )
Mad Cow
We brought two wicker pieces of furniture with us and they were fine! Why are they saying it would cost $500? We never had ours sprayed? Maybe we were just lucky? Let us know what they say.
Admin
I guess the $500 they're referring to would be the potential AQIS Quarantine Fee/Charge. Wicker is classed as an 'Item of Quarantine Concern' http://www.daff.gov.au/aqis/travel/entering-australia/moving-emigrating/items_of_quarantine_concern_in_personal_effects I don't think it's possible for you to get it sprayed in advance and get a certificate. If it's lacquered, varnished, waxed, oiled etc, then it could be ok, if it's bare untreated wicker then if may have to be treated(fumigation etc) (& I've read several posts which have referred to 'several hundred dollars per item' or around $60 to have it destroyed). Just read the list from quarantine concern.... pots and pans... the removal company never mentioned this, maybe we should leave all here!
