Charlene Dermott
Hi Charlene, well done! I am very nearly qualified. I'm a degree trained adult nurse, I will qualify in January. I have a job in the UK to start as soon as I get my pin, but I would much prefer to start my career in Aus. I too was thinking of applying for the graduates visa but after reading negative posts on other forums I had given up hope. Would you send me the name if the hospital please xx Sorry for the late reply it's the hollywood private clinic x
LoopyLauren
Hi Claire, I spotted your thread and noticed you are doing the TOP UP degree, Do you definitely need to do this now to register over there?? I was hoping to avoid it, as I have two young kids ( youngest 6 mths old) and to try and study now will break me! But I only have the diploma and not many courses to name since I qualified( I travelled a lot!) Did you find out about Auxiliary work etc?? I was hoping that they might have a different rule if you have been qualified a certain length of time and/or been registered over there previously. Any ideas?? Cheers Lauren
LoopyLauren
HI Ali, I heard this news via my agent here in the UK and I was gutted to say the least. We have been in the visa process now for 18 mths and now awaiting visa app decision... So no going back. But I am a Diploma Nurse, I have almost 20 years experience, mostly in ED or at least acute hospital. I have been registered in Oz previously both in NSW and NT, when I was on a working holiday visa many moons ago. Does this count for nothing? I am concerned, as I don't think I am can top up to a degree at the moment, as I have two young children and no immediate family to support studying. Is it a definite NO or do they have different rules depending on experience etc??? Any help here would be greatly appreciated Lauren P.S I tried emailing APRHA and I got a one line response that was not much help.

I've registered with a couple of agents but am also keen to get work in any paeds areas at all, Does anyone have any ideas. I'd be really grateful!! ImmilBees
Ashen Louise and Clairej456. I too have had this discussion with my husband we've also decided that if worst comes to it I will work as an NA while I do my bridging course, but just to let you know, my friend who is in this country still has just got her reply after a year from AHPRA which incidentally was a no due to being diploma trained. They offered her the bridging course and she said it looked like it didn't take that long to complete (less than a year) and can be done from this country. She turned it down though as she has almost completed her degree anyway so is just going to reapply. We're not hoping to make the move until Feb 2016 so I'm going to apply for my pin in the new year and see what happens xx

Hi Lauren from what I have read and heard experience counts for nothing. They want the degree, though my friend I worked with in ITU who recently got turned down for her registration was offered the bridging course that she could do in this country. She said it didn't look like it took too long, but as she's close to completing her degree anyway she turned it down. it took them a year though to let her know of the decision, so it's worth applying ASAP to find out where you stand xx

I will look into a bridging course. I was under the impression that the bridging course was an OZ thing, but if it can be carried out here, that might be an idea. I would love to know what it is called here in the UK? A few details about it would be fab. Cheers I have looked on UNi websites and can't see any mention of that type of course.... COLE61
Hi there I am an adult trained nurse in uk. Currently training as a health visitor. Would work in hopitals or community in Perth coming on holiday next year for a month to see. Planning to move with my family. What area is good to work or financially. Do people no how health visiting works in perth?
verystormy
Tree isn't really such a thing as a health visitor in perth. The nearest thing would be Silver Chain.

Wanted to finish this course to get HV under my belt I think Silver Chain is an agency; I would have thought with the health visiting qualification (speacialist public health practitioner) then you could try out for child and family health nurse also i suppose would depend on your post grad experience once you have finished what position you would feel most comfortable working in. I am a child health nurse and a school nurse - i will be looking at community health nurse, or youth health nurse/public health etc. I dont think i would be accepted for work on the wards as I haven't completed any hospital work in 10 years, and my skills tend to be community based, preventation work and working with complex needs families usually more social behavioural difficulties and family functioning. You could google child and family health nurse to check what qualifications you would need for this role and if they accept adult nurses?? Hope this helps :-)
Akasully2
Hi, I'm not a nurse, so feel like I am butting in but I do know what Silver Chain is. My OH recently had surgery on his ear in hospital and needed the dressings changed every two days. He was told to go to Siver Chain. At the time we had no idea what it was and presumed it was a private money making clinic. It wasn't. We asked the nurse and she said it was a non profit community care service. It cost us nothing, just had to fill out a form with medicare details. Judging by the posters on the walls, it seemed to be geared toward older people, those with diabetes, etc. I believe they did home visits too. I hope that helped a little! annjean
Silver Chain do a great job, I had surgery and after I came home from hospital they came every few days to check and change my bandages etc and even took my 32 staples out at home to save me going back to the hospital. They could not do enough for me I was very pleased and did not cost a cent.
CarrieandJoe
Hi all :-) I am a Degree Qualified Children's Nurse currently working at Bristol Children's Hospital on the Medical High Dependency Unit. I currently have 6 months post registration experience and me and the OH ( who is a plasterer ) have just started our visa application (PR) I have passed my IELTS and am due to submit my ANMAC assessment this week we we are hoping to emigrate by the end of 2015 by which point I will have 18 months experience. Does anyone know what the current job situation is for Children's Nurses in Perth at present? Any advice appreciated Carrie x
Happy little Vegemite
I don't know anything about child nurse jobs per se, but at first glance it seems to me you may well be timing your move to perfection. The new children's hospital being built to replace the current children's hospital, Princess Margaret, is supposedly due for completion around November 2015 and looks pretty amazing... kutsu
Hi CarrieandJoe, My Wife is also a children's nurse and we are heading out to Perth in May, although she is a community nurse she does also have some ward experience and at the moment looking as options for work, the new Perth children's hospital does look promising but also may be worth registering with some nursing agencies to begin with. CarrieandJoe
Hi kutsu, thanks for the reply I will be registering with a nursing agency definitely, better to be safe than sorry! are you doing the same? Can I ask how long your visa took with ANMAC etc involved? I've just completed my IELTS and going to start ANMAC this month. Thanks Carrie
kutsu
Hi CarrieandJoe, We didnt go down the AMNAC route as I had already applied for a visa based on my IT qualifications, I will say though that registering with AHPRA was a headache and a bit of a slow process so would recommend getting onto that as soon as you can
CarrieandJoe
Thanks for the tip kutsu, once ANMAC is sent and paid for we will then start the APHRA process. Is your wife having trouble with registration then? Anmac is currently a 12 week wait once all documenets have been recieved so think that will be a lengthly process! Just want to be able to get in EOI....patience is a virtue i guess!! :-)

Ashlenelouise
I sent my ANMAC off last year and got it back well before 12 weeks, I also sent my ahpra off before Christmas and I still haven't heard a peep from them ... It's my ielts that's holding me back as I will go as soon as my visa is cleared even if my ahpra isn't back yet xx
