Recommended Posts

Hi my wife and I are arriving in Bunbury on March 12th and will be on the look out for a cheap used car/van/4x4/ute just to get us mobile anything considered as long as its in reasonable condition reliable and has rego. Max we really want to spend until we get work is around $2500

So if anyone knows of anything or a dealer that sells cheaper cars let me know!

Cheers

$2,500 is a small budget for a car here but it is possible.

Dealers are going to be out because of their high profit margins. 2.5K spend is dealer profit $900, car $ 1,600 = clunker.

A 4x4 at 2.5K is going to have serious maintenance issues, so another no no.

I would avoid the flogged to death Falcons and Commodores and maybe look at Hyundai Excel (if you can get past the poor paintwork) Nissan Pulsar, Daewoo Lanos type vehicles. Quality motoring they ain't but if you buy a decent one, it will serve you well for minimal further outlay and then you will still have the resale value when it's time for you to move on to something decent.

Most important, take your time 'cos there's lot's of rubbish out there

We paid $2000 for our Kia Sportage. It's not pretty but functional, has 47k on the clock and until it was hail damaged it was a well cared for little motor.

I don't care what a car looks like, what brand it is etc, it's just a tool to me.

Look for hail damaged cars, there are some bargains around.

Also, the Quokka tends to be better for those cherished minters with one owner from new that nobody really wants anymore.

Some friends of ours just bought a stunningly clean Wedgie (VW T25) with low km's, spotless and faultless for $2k!

There is hope.
