[h=2]School at 16 - Or is it college?[/h]

Hello, this is my first question (probably of many...) We are looking at moving to Australia in 2016 when my son has finished his GCSE's - Can anyone tell me what level of schooling he would go into? Would it be college? And when do they take exams and get ready for university? And is the school year any different? i.e.. does it go from September to July like in England? - thank you
:)

Hi we came when my daughter completed her GCSE's if you come out straight from then he may go into yr 11, if he plans on going to uni he will need the yr 12 certificate, however my daughter came out of school as it was not that good also witnessed by myself when i went in , she is now doing a cert3 in police studies and loving it at TAFE (college). the school year starts from end of January to December. there are other options to get into Uni but yr 12 combined with yr 11 is easier but then again it depends on the grades for the course they want to study, if they do not get the appropriate grades they have to take other pathways to uni any way.

the school my daughter went to was not in Perth by the way.

cheers

All the info is in the above post. Also - don't be confused by the term 'college' when researching schools - many high schools, mainly private ones, are called such and such College - but it is just a high school. There are a couple of actualy colleges though. TAFE is probably the equivalent but kids tend not to do as well there trying to get the equivalent of the Year 12 WACE qualification and find it harder to make friends. Your best bet is to get her into Year 11 as early as possible, even if means missing out on GCsES.
