We Have Landed!!!

G'day!

We landed Tuesday evening and the past few days have been so surreal. We are so relaxed (totally unexpected) and feel like we finally belong somewhere :). All the of the sweat, tears and obsessive checking of emails is behind us now and it's hard to even remember how painfully slow time used to pass!!! We are constantly experiencing the " We live here now! " and just can't seem to get enough of the ocean, bush, 'n birds.

Things moved so fast in our last week - we moved out of our apartment on the 28th Feb and then flew out on the 3rd arriving here on the 5th. We booked a room initially for the first week as we didn't want to risk booking somewhere for an extended period of time- smart move in our opinion. As usual in tough rental markets there are always those taking advantage but after living in Vancouver, we completely expected it. A bit of perseverance, I think you always find something and someone who isn't completely taking the piss and acknowledges that people are meant to live with some comfort in their accommodation! We are moving into furnished accommodation tomorrow and plan to stay there until we find jobs and a home.

In 5 days, we have had a good look around Rockingham - Mandurah as we thought it was an area we would like to settle in but have decided it's not for us. I It seems like an ideal place to raise a family though - I can see the attraction for many people.

The idea of being able to afford renting a house is exciting but we would want a bit of a back garden with some trees so we can have birds visit.....and not to long of a drive to the beaches. (Yes, we want everything). I think once we find jobs we will have a better idea of what we can afford and areas we can live. We are going to have a good look up around Joondalup way but not sure what beaches would be best up there. Also want to have a look inland a bit further on the Midland Line. It's a hard life!!!!

Going to start apply for jobs this week after moving into our new place and not really sure what to expect. We are in it for life so will just keep on applying until something comes up.

WHOOHOOO! We are living the dream!

Really good honest post and glad that you are settling in.

I suppose you do just have to take it as it comes and see how things go. We too are also looking SOR - Rocky- Mandurah and we like the look of it, but as you say until you are there getting a feel for things, it is quite difficult making a decision based in front of a keyboard.

Wishing you the Best of Luck in your job hunting and keep us posted.

Good Luck.

Welcome to Australia. we arrived a month ago and love it. We are in Mandurah, like you said it not until you arrive that you decide. We tried up north on our validation trip but it was not for us, when we travelled back to Mandurah/Halls Head, we felt like it was home.

kids love it here and close to school, just need to find a job to start paying for this lovely life. Lol xxx:mad:

Hi

I emigrated over as an accountant and have experience in engineering and project based accounting (2 years); I am also keen to get into payroll in Australia.

My husband is open to a career change; in the past he was cook, psychiatric nursing assistant and recently has been making money in his own time with his website design and photography. We are hoping that if I can secure some full time employment, he will pick up something on a part time basis and work to build up a website design business.

It's hard to determine if there are a lot of jobs out there as so many of them are advertised via agencies; my experience with agencies in Canada left me wondering if half of the jobs advertised actually existed!!

Welcome to Perth.

What do you do/what are you looking for? You never know, people on here might be able to point you in the right direction.

Hi Donna,

Your post made me laugh out loud - it's a shame we have to actually work when we are out here!!!

It's great to hear that you found your home - It's a wonderful feeling when you just know. It must be especially nerve wracking when you have kidsas well; I can't even imagine that - but what a great adventure for them too.

All the best and good luck with the job search ( and when you do find a job, hope you don't have to start right away!!!)

re your husbands work psychiatric nursing assistant

i worked on an acute mental health ward back home in the uk also in the community as a crisis support team support worker run clinics also can take bloods experienced drug and alcohol worker ................... 7 mths on cannot get a job in my chosen field, even though there is a massive drug and alcohol problem. mental health care is 10 years behind the uk and more under funded. you will see a lot of mentally unwell folks here its a crying shame and so sad. nursing assistants or na's as back in the uk do not exist here unless you have completed a course ................. they are called patient aides

they use the sen nurses which have been phased out in the uk

good luck though glad you like perh

Great to hear you are loving Perth!! I just had my 190 visa granted on Tuesday and me and the hubby are so excited, in fact we still can't believe it's real after all of the hard work that has gone into the whole process!! We will be moving mid August and it can't come quick enough.

Welcome you Guys!

We plan to move down to Perth eventually, but your remarks scare me alittle as I was thinking that Perth is an easy place to get work.

Certainly where we are living(2 hours NE of Perth) has got to be one of the worst places, as my wife is finding out.

Luck for us is that I have a job.

Good luck with the job hunt.
