Lou8670
Opening an Aussie savings account sounds a great idea. Can you have one in GBP and AUD and convert funds when the rate looks good?
Lou8670
Ps missed my money saving friends. Definitely should look at saving on current mortgage. Trouble is would like to sell in the short term

Redsquare
I don't think you can open an account in £ and convert to $ when the time is right. You might find one though. We're just keeping an eye on the exchange rate and will move our money over when we think it's best (or the week we go). The change in the rate has made a big difference to us, we'll make a couple of thousand dollars more than we would've done a couple of months ago! travelchic
Ok. So I am fed up of watching the camel tv. So I thought I'd get a quote on fixing my broken one. £400 plus labour plus VAT. Should wear masks. They can shove it. Just hope the camel doesn't have feelings lol Debs

I'd be making a pair of sexy knickers for the Camel and sticking it on eBay for £500. Actually, no, don't do that. Bring it here, you'll get twice as much for it. In fact, why not go buy a few cheap s/h LCD's and turn your lounge into Zoo TV? You could make a Roo TV, a Koala TV and a Drop Bear TV and bring them all out with you and sell them for a fortune* *probably

Oz2014
I know when I think about the money I wasted over the years. The local scrap dealer here take old/ broken TVs so that another way to make few pennies:) every time I do boot sale I count pounds and convert into dollars it gives me motive to keep saving. travelchic
I wonder ifi can sell my tv here. It works as in there is sound. It's just the pic has gone really bright. The man said it needed something, might have been a board or something, wasn't paying much attention after he quoted the cost lol. The TV cost me 1200 and I am not willing to pay £400 plus to have it fixed if its not going to be any use to me in Australia. So the camel it is. Hope he doesn't get the hump ha ha. See what I did there... Debs
Oz2014
check ur local paper (at library so u dont have to buy it) as in the one here people offering to buy old tvs etc for scrap...worth a try as it gonna cost a brave penny to fix. also we have close family wedding soon...my dress is from ebay its like new and only a tenner and it is from next...i have no bother with wearing cheap clothes but check ebay first as sometimes a good quality bargain can be had. it sounds like i am spending rather than saving but only buy if essential like for this wedding. jo and scott
Just make sure you don't spend your takings lol Debs Lol ! I've been so skint for sooooo long it's been nice to have some money since selling our house 3 months ago. But time to crack on with the saving. Maybe I should halve the budget I've given myself for food / petrol. Im rubbish at saving :-/ but I need to start somewhere.
Sideshowdeb
Thanks for all the fab tips! We had toyed with the idea before but never had the guts, or the motivation....until now, but for the last 3 months we've been living on my salary and saving my OH's. It's been painful at times but nowhere as bad as we thought it would be. It's surprising how much difference it makes just paying attention to what we buy and where from. Some things that have really worked for me, are stocking up on bread and milk. I used to pop into the supermarket every day or so just to get bread and milk and come out with 2 bags of other stuff that I picked up on a whim. Now I buy enough for a week and freeze them, just be aware a large milk takes a very long time to defrost! Also, if you enjoy cooking, Jamie Oliver has a book out that's all about cost saving cooking. There's lots of recipes that make eating on a budget more interesting and it's full of tips about reducing waste and making the most of leftovers. A few things even brought back memories from my childhood, like stew on a Monday, made from the leftovers from the Sunday roast. It's nice to know that even though we can't afford to go out anymore, we can still feed our friends when they come over. Mostly I'm enjoying rising to the challenge and look forward to updating my signature with 'flights booked' very soon! Debs xx
StraighttothePoint
What about when you go to Ikea and buy a coffee you "borrow" the cup on the way out and then that way everytime you back to Ikea you can use that cup to fill up on free coffee.... Remember when you buy a coffee you are entitled to as many re-fills as you like....... Ya dancer what a tip eh? Bet Travel Chic will love this one Edited October 28, 2013 by StraighttothePoint
