linda@no9
Today we drove from our home in Madeley an hour and a bit to Mandurah. I rather liked Mandurah. A little and I mean a little, like torbay/torquay by way of the holiday town feeling. Plenty to do round the marina, lots of lovely holiday homes. For those who live in Mandurah, is t a commute to CBD? Absolutely loved the 'posh' houses that had rear access to the estuary and private moorings! We are thinking SOR when we eventually buy, but whats the draw so far south?
Give me a break!
Well we love Mandurah. It's a massive area , we are north in Lakelands and down to Dawesville so not just Mandurah Centre itself. It has bars and clubs, restaurants , cinema. It's one if the fastest growing areas in Australia and has much planned. A multi million dollar revamp of the foreshore for example. Dolphin Quay is another part of Mandurah that has a lovely indoor market multi million dollar apartments and our personal favourite the Oyster Bar. It's a long way from Perth CBD which is exactly why we like it.
bensdad
We live further north in Waikiki it takes an hour in the morning to get to Claremont , the freeway into the CBd gets very busy in the morning but there are a few other routes to take. I was working in the CBd with people who lived in halls head and they used to train in every day so it is doable but I'd be using a train from mandurah personally. jamesw
Mandurah to Perth underground is 50 minutes by train, with a service leaving every 10 minutes in the peak

I buy a paper and by the time i have read it, i am in Perth.
StraighttothePoint
But the Mandurah commute is not just the 50 minutes by train is it guys? I would have thought that any total daily commute time, regardless of mode, was from the time you left your front door until you got to your work place added to the total reverse journey time? That gives you the true total daily commute time - no? Not baggin Mandurah but just sayin..... blackpool3
We have been in Mandurah for 11 months now and love the place. I get the train to the CBD every day and its no hassle (1hr from leaving the house to getting into work). I work with plenty of people who live up around Perth and their commute times are not far off mine. We live for the weekends, The Oyster Bar, Murphy's, Asian Delights, we even joined the sailing club and met lots of new friends there. The only problem we will have is where to buy a house as we rent on the Marina at the moment.

Loving seeing all these positive posts on PP and fantastic you are settling in well and loving the Aussie lifestyle. We have been learning to sail as we live near the coast in the UK. I'd love to hear more about sailing in and around perth and more about the sailing club you have joined as I would like to carry on learning to sail when we get out there. We will be looking to settle SOR around Rockingham, Mandurah areas.
blackpool3
We joined the sailing club for the social side of things in Mandurah but many friends have boats and we have had many a good day out on them crabbing, fishing and drinking. Friends who moved from Rockingham said it was very hard to meet anyone at that club (sorry anyone from the sailing club at Rockingham) but when they moved and joined this one they have made lots of friends. I know the club sails a lot at weekends and they are always looking for extra crew. They have a club for the kids and they teach them to sail on the weekends. elfie
Mandurah is lovely. We were down as far as Wannanup just over the bridge from Dawesville on the cut when we came first. I loved it there the people were more friendly than Secret Harbour I have to say. Love the Coast cafe in the marina just loved it there. That was a plus for me also the wildlife is amazing there, daily viewings of the dolphins were amazing. Also thinking of a possible move back down there.
