Stuff worth bringing

Hey everyone, we will be moving to Perth in 6 months and I'm just wondering if it's worth 'travelling light' or making the most of my partner's relocation package and just taking everything we own that's still in good condition? Especially electrical stuff like kettle, iron, Hoover, lamps, coffee machine? Would it just be a matter of changing the plugs once we arrive in oz, which I assume is simple enough? Or should we sell what we've got and buy new? Thanks

We came out last August and because it was a company move took everything. Prices for some items are comparible with the UK, but unless your replacing all of it, you might as well bring it along. The only thing we did was buy a load of Austrialian adaptor plugs from ebay before we left, so we didnt have to swap over all the plugs on our electrical goods immediatly. We didnt have any issues, everything arrived OK, and still worked. In fact the only large thing we've brought is a new fridge because the old one was fitted into the kitchen.

when starting from scratch, then its amazing how much it does cost. When we set up a new kitchen with basic food, herbs, cleaning stuff, it costs $100's, so bring whatever you can.

Some of the things you will need before your container arrives, so might be worth getting those here otherwise you'll end up with two. In saying that we pretty much brought everything anyway. Changing plugs is very easy, changed one for our Dyson, Fridge freezer, TV and all the other stuff with no problems.

If you are coming here on PR and starting a new life, in a new land then having all your old belongings is so 1980's............ It is a bit down to your own personal financial situation in reality. If you can afford stuff and things why bring it? Perhaps find a happy medium, bring some essentials in the cases send over some stuff via a courier type service and then buy, buy, buy and have nice new shiny stuff for the house. A nice new modern house, rented or bought, with an old three peice suite as I say how 1980's......

Thanks everyone for your replies... Straighttothepoint I think we'll be leaving our comfy but not entirely attractive and modern sofa behind! But I am a little bit stuck in the 1980s :) We're hoping to go for PR a little later down the line, on a 457 initially just to check out what it's like... Cheers again all
