Gerald Knight
The info on Marmite should probably be on another post about where to buy British food products in Perth. The British shop in Kalamunda is good and has all the old favourites that you may not have seen or been able to get elsewhere. Apparently real British Marmite cannot be imported to Australia due to licensing issues. There is an alternative called 'My Mate' which you can by in some places. The Kalamunda shop imports the real Marmite 'on the sly' and that's why they keep it behind the counter. It's cloak and dagger to ask for it but its quite fun. You made me chuckle about the Marmite under the counter! I don't live in Kalamunda or the Hills, but have friends who do, so I am up there fairly often. I love that Brit shop and have looked for Marmite a few times and couldn't find it. Now I know to ask! Thanks.... I have bought the My Mate and it actually tastes exactly the same as English Marmite. There is a NZ version of the yummy stuff sold in Australia that is called Marmite, so that might be why My Mate has a different name.... And I agree about a thread about English food and where to buy it in Perth.... so seeing as you are a newbie to our forum, why don't you start one and really get to know us all? Welcome by the way!
