Maybeimamazed
Hello all, could anyone give me an average cost on the whole thing please? I'm putting together all the different things we need to save for, visas, medicals, IELTS, vetassess, skills select... It really feels endless, flights I'm sorted with as I work at the airport so I'm lucky there, container will come from the sale of our home. I just need an idea of how much cash we need just for the whole obtaining visas. Ax
colinmacl
I would say around £30k for everything to obtain visa, then travel and shipping and start up costs till you get a job not including cars etc. Depends on the individuals really but that's a rough basic minimum to allow. The more you have the better as you may not work for months when you arrive.
verystormy
I would budget for money to live on for 6 months after arriving until you get work - rent, plus bond for that period is going to be about $13k. You will also need to book some temp accomodation for when you first arrive. Are you bringing any pets?
Maybeimamazed
Huh?!? Really? Just for visas? When we sell up we will have a healthy amount of cash but we won't sell till we are approved for visas, I meant just for the it's before the actual move, the cost of covering the application. Panic, breath...paper bag!!
SJT
Hi, just for the visas, medicals etc and using an agent it cost us roughly £10,000, but this was spread out over a period of a year. We are two adults and three children. Good luck with it, its very stressful and lots of paperwork but we can now see the end, we move in 7 and half weeks, it has taken us two years and five months since we first started the process. We could have moved out last year, but to give us some breathing "money" we renovated our bungalow into a house and sold it. So if things in Oz don't work out, we can come back to the same financial position we were in before we left. I'm seeing it as an extended holiday, but if it all works out than fantastic, but if the worse happens, i.e. hubby does not find work or its not the life we want, then its just a year out of my life, but what an adventure for us as a family. I don't think I could have got to this stage, knowing I did not have a back up plan.
Nikkis2000
We've budgeted about 15k but are putting most of the immediate costs (visas etc) on a 0% credit card which we'll pay off when we sell the house. That also includes the cost of shipping two cats and all the associated vet and quarantine fees. We're doing it on more of a wing and prayer than SJT and have little or no back up plan. We'll just have to work hard to make sure it does work We do share the same outlook though in that, worse case, we'd rather try and come back a bit worse off financially but with a whole better life experience. That said we have no kids at the moment so the "gung ho" attitude comes a little easier!
Jkm
This is what we have budgeted for visa £2000 agent£2200 ielts £135 skills assessment £1700 removals £4500 dog £3500 WA state sponsorship £140 medical £800 (not sure on this cost but bet its not far off) plus flights £2800 then set up costs I reckon £30 k all in. Nikkis2000
Sorry I should say our costs don't include setting up once we're there. It's just for the visas and move. Everything else is coming out of the equity but agree with the others that another 15 - 20 k on top of that (assuming you don't get work straight off)

It really feels endless, flights I'm sorted with as I work at the airport so I'm lucky there, container will come from the sale of our home. I just need an idea of how much cash we need just for the whole obtaining visas. Ax 189 visa fee $3060 (approximately £2k) (For a 190 you will also have to pay the State assessment fee which will depend on the State) Medicals Approx £280-320 each adult (£90 each child under 11) Vetassess - no idea as we were assessed through CPA about $400 but heard vetassess is more expensive http://www.vetassess.com.au/migrate_to_australia/ts_fees_payment.cfm#RegionalFees Ielts £135 PCC (police check) £46 each adult over 16 You can add on £1500 to £2k to that if you choose to use an agent. That's to get your visa. Hope this helps! Edited May 22, 2013 by Lou8670
Lou8670
medical £800 (not sure on this cost but bet its not far off). It depends on how many there are of you. Medicals are between £280-320 for an adult and £90 per child under 11 yo. For a child over 11 they may need some of the tests as the adult but not all so would likely be somewhere in between. There are 5 of us so its costing us £910 plus we have to travel to the UK as there is no doctor who is registered with DIAC locally.
Maybeimamazed
Oh wow, you are all fantastic, thank you all so much for this info, it's a massive help, we're closer than we thought. But confused with the vetassess costs still, hubby is a driving instructor and we are looking at a 489 state sponsor option. Ax
