I didnt want to hear that. Im moving out in 3 weeks and hoping to get into IT support.

What sort of jobs are you looking at?

Mostly IT Support and admin roles.Got called for few interviews as well but looks like competition is too high.

I'm in IT, and in Perth. But I'm in software development.

The number of jobs is smaller in Perth, but so are the number of candidates.

I did find agencies useless though. Any results I've got is from me doing the leg work and then from contacts I've worked with.

I'm contacted every few weeks about new roles. So things look good from my view point, but things can rapidly change.

For salary guide look at an app called "SalaryChecker" by Robert Walters.

Did you ever manage to find anything? Also considering moving over later in the year.

Hi I will be moving to Perth and am also a software developer with a background in Financial Services. From your experience, will there be opportunities to break into a job without too much hassle over there?

Have you thought about maybe going for helpdesk stuff to get a foot in the door? Seems to be plenty of that about, and I managed to get a good job relatively easily in that role. Good luck with it anyway, I'm sure you'll get a break soon :-)

In a word, "depends".

Financial services is mainly an East Coast thing. But what skill do you have? Fancy being a consultant in AX or similar?

I was a VB6 and basic SQL developer, I'm now doing .NET, and got DBA qualified. But I got the job first, and got the skills after.

C#, ASP.NET, VB6-VB.NET, PLSQL, SQL, Oracle Forms, javaScript, HTML, CSS. The Fin. Services side of it I can take or leave I guess, it's just a familiar sector to me. I guess I wouldn't mind consultancy, though I've never done that kind of work -- I'd maybe feel a bit wary of not having guaranteed work all the time.
