thesteels
Hi this is my first post, so please be gentle with me & your replies and also a naive with the whole visa process, hubby has just obtained positive skills assessment and this is how our points are broken down (for PR 190 Visa): Age: 15 Points Work Exp: 15 points IELTS: 10 points (at the moment with all 7's) Qualifications: 10 points State Sponsorship: 5 points Total of: 55 points Does anyone know how we can gain another 5 points other than doing IELTS with 8's in every sections to get 20 points which is proving very hard to do, but this will give us 65 points in total. Any advice would be much appreciated.
cjbchris
Looks to be in the same category as me with age.... I had to do the IELTS (3 times), to get the max 20 points.... unless you want to go through the IELTS and skill assessment yourself to get the 5 partner points??? I presume your OH doesn't have a degree, looking at his education points??? Chris

Hi The steels, you can gain 10 points instead of 5 if you go regional 489 visa, that what i did also, also for work experience are you taking into account post apprenticeship etc? the reason i ask is i was caught out with this when i first was applying, also do you have all proof in regards to this . im sure you have everything in order but just wanted to let you know anyway, good luck
Lou8670
Personally I would have another go at the ielts as there by far less 489 visas issued and there are obvious limitations with a 489.
thesteels
No he's a site manager in UK he has sat General IELTS 5 times and getting closer slowly but very hard to get 8's in every section when you don't do much paperwork. I cannot get any points as my job is not on SOL. So it will have to be IELTS route I think. Thanks Chris
thesteels
Hi Debs & congratulations on your results my oh sat his on 25 May too but did not get the results he needed and also sat again today your post on Ielts was really helpful too!! How come you have done both the General and Academic Ielts test? You can get 10 points for Regional but cannot live or work in Perth for first 2 years so that is not an option for us. Whats next for you? Bal
thesteels
Hi Agibb, What do you mean by post apprenticeship? And with 489 visa are you limited as to where you live and work in WA? Bal
Agibb83
Hi Agibb, What do you mean by post apprenticeship? And with 489 visa are you limited as to where you live and work in WA? Bal Hi by post apprenticeship, depending on your oh job, like i was a carpenter and began this in 1999 however i was an apprentice untill 2003 so i was only able to claim for my working years from then , we are going on the 489, and heading for mandurah, we cant stay in the centre of perth/metropolitan area, but the way we looked on it was to live there could come at a huge expense so living outside perth aint so bad , even if we went on the 190 visa we would still have prob went to the place we are going to and after 2 years living and 1 years working regional we can apply for pr (887) visa. i sat the ielts once and got 6.5 in one band which spoilt my chances of the 190 however i could have resat the test opted for the 489 instead, good luck with what ever you choose. DyLeB
IELTS is best option. Try a tutor for exam strategy or heard of IELTS Ryan on YouTube not sure how good they are.
