Loulou
Hi all We have been here almost 3 weeks so thought I would do a little update. We are very lucky that we are renting a house from family so have not had the headache of looking for somewhere to live and its furnished! Our container should be here by end of the month and will be great for the boys to have all their stuff. We set up NAB accounts before we left so went there and got our cards etc very friendly . Then Medicare which was pretty straight forward, and registered for Tax File Numbers online. Cant change our DVLC until we get Medicare cards through as don't have enough ID. Registered at Centrelink as well for Family Assistance think that will take a few weeks to come through. We bought a lovely little Nissan Tiida good little family car for now . Boys 8 & 4 started school and kindy this week both settled really well, the younger one I was worried about as he is not as good with new situations as his brother, but although he cried on the first day has been fine since :-). Workwise I am waiting for my Police check to come back so I can start work as a Education Asst on a supply basis very lucky that my Aunt is a Principal in a primary school . Not such good luck at moment for Hubby he is an electrician and there are loads of adverts for jobs but most require A licence which he has to sit a course for a do at least 6 months Gap Training.....cant do Gap Training without a job !!! So just applying for labour jobs and anything else at the moment. I dont think the employers understand enough about the restricted licence that he is on , he doesnt need constant supervision just needs his work signed off, hoping he will get a break soon... We are all loving the weather and the great beaches and parks, much happier at night now we have some electric heaters didnt actually believe it would be so cold at night lol!! Food shopping is little bit more exspensive for some things but you just have to shop the offers and I guess once we are both earning dollars it will all be relevant wine is good price though . All in all no regrets at all and hopefully next time I post OH will have a job!!! Lou
Weedolly
Hi good to hear you are doing well, Am not being funny but would like to ask you a question about your job. I was looking into doing the Cert III in Education Support so I could do the same job as you and the training organisation told me that you must have at least this qualification to get a job in a school now. Are you getting your job without this, are they telling me a lot of rubbish so I sign up with them?

Hi there I have a Level 2 which i completed in the UK and will do my level 3 here but it is not compulsory until next year . I know it is quite hard to get these jobs as lots of mums (like myself) want them to fit around children, as I say I am very lucky with my aunt being a principal. We were over in Yangebup a couple of weeks ago, some stuff fell of the back of a guys lorry and hit our hire car, he just got out, picked it up and drove off as if it never happened, couldn't believe it! There wasn't even any company name on the lorry so there went our excess!

Weedolly
Hi Diane I am not sure sorry, with my OH electrical stuff that had to see all his certificates and they were ok with that so may be the same good luck Lou I think you will find its a bit harder than just having to show certificates before you can get an Electrical Licence, you may be able to get a Superivised Licence but you are restricted to the jobs you can do on this. My OH did it a few years ago but am sure it has now changed to a years gap training and then you need to sit a couple of courses and an exam as well before you can get an A grade Licence. There is a couple of Electricians on here doing it now, they should be able to tell you all the ins and outs.

Yes your right thats what my husband is doing now , but I just meant the certifcates were accepted. He still had to do a trade test and has a restricted licence until he does Gap Training but cant get an employer to take you on with a restricted licence.....and you need a job to do the Gap Training . Really frustrating can understand the need for the training but not sure employers really understand the restricted licence.......

Has he tried any of the agencies or the electrical companies that build switchboards, you can do that as a TA, not the best money but better than nothing till he gets sorted out. Loulou
Yes registered with agencies had a couple of calls but as soon as he says he is on restricted they are not interested. Have left his CV with Nilsons who do switchboards as recommended by someone on here they said they may have work coming up, are there any others?
